Tanguar Haor



Tangua Haor is one of the largest waterbody in Bangladesh . the world of Tanguar haor including 46 villages within the haor is about 100km2 of which 2,802.36 ha2 is wetland. it's the source of livelihood for quite 40,000 people. 

Tanguar haor plays a crucial role in fish production because it functions as a 'mother fishery' for the country.In winter the haor is become a home  of  birds.We can se about 150-200 differet types of birds there. The haor is a crucial source of fish. In 1999-2000, the govt earned 7,073,184 takas as revenue just from fisheries of the haor. There are quite 140 species of water fish within the haor. The more predominant among them are: gutum, gulsha, tengra,ayir, gang magur, baim, tara, , garia, beti,  etc. Hijal, karach, gulli, balua, ban tulsi, nalkhagra and other freshwater wetland trees are during this haor.
Tanguar Haor is possibly the 2nd largest Haor from bd. this is often declared because the motherland for fishes of Bangladesh. Lot of Beel and swamp area all at once are called as Tanguar Haor .Local people say this as Tangua haor.

Plenty of rivers and canals skilled this massive haor. Most of these rivers were originated from the Indian hills. If you go there during winter then you've got to travel through the Baulai river.

Basically you'll go there to observe the migratory birds from the haor. Lot of such birds wont to come from Siberia during winter. Unfortunately my timing wasn't good. it had been almost at the top of winter. you ought to go there winter.


There is a short lived Ansar camp at the center of the Haor. Also there's a corporation available which is controlling the fishing at the Haor. Possibly it's morning 9 to afternoon 3 is that the period of catching fish from Haor. then , no fishing.



How to Go:

This is for the trip during winter. season are going to be different.
1. employing a bus from Dhaka you'll easily come at Sunamganj Town.Best services are Mamun, ENA Shamoli,etc. carfare is 550 Taka. it'll take around 6-7 hours during night journey.

2. From the Nothun Bridge , hire motor bike to return at Tahirpur Bazar .all will cost around 250-300 taka. Two person can ride on bike after the driving force . GPS of the Tahirpur is (25° 5'54.73"N, 91°10'35.72"E). it'll take around 40-50 minutes. Alternately you'll use the CNG three wheler if you taking female travelers with you.

3. employing a bike from the town, come to Solman Ghat, GPS is (25° 5'16.82"N, 91° 6'55.94"E). it'll be 50-60 taka per bike and a half-hour ride.

4. Hire a ship from the Solman Ghat. alittle engine boat will cost around 800 to 1000 taka per day. From the Ghat, it'll take around two hours to succeed in at the center of the Haor.


Where to Stay:

You can occupy the Tahirpur Upozila Guest House or Tahirpur Dak Banglo during the trip. this is often the closest possible accommodation from the Haor. we've hired two rooms from the Upozila Guest House, each of the space were 100 taka per night. Contact number of the Dak Banglo is 01724968161.
If you planned to remain in Haor area you've got to manage an area from local village . Cost are going to be 100 to 200tk. But my suggestion to remain in boat in the dark in order that you'll enjoy the sunset and sunrise from the center of the Haor and belive me it'll be an excellent experience for you because Haor looks so heavenly at those time. you'll be ready to see the both incident parallel of your eyes and at the night you'll enjoy the moon light or can watch the shooting stars (possible in clear sky). there's alittle island within the middle of Tanguar Haor near at Tanguar Haor rest house( now Ansaar use this as their camp)and few families live there. This island have the sanitary facilities and you'll pass the night almost it .It is the safer place from anywhere of the Haor.
Sunamgonj Town.In Sunamganj there are few hotels and room rent are going to be 200 to 500 tk.
It will better if you stray in sunamgonj town. Taking some times rest then you begin journey to Tanguar Hoar to go to . After visiting Tanguar Hoar you'll back to in hotel and taking a while rest then your attend your destination by bus in night. you'll be find many hotel near bus stand.In Sunamganj there are few hotels and room rent are going to be 200 to 500 tk. Some comfortable and good hotel also has here.

What to eat (food):

There are numerous restaurant in Sunamganj and food price is extremely reasonable. In Tahirpur the restaurant facilities isn't tolerably . If you propose to remain night at boat you've got to shop for foods from Tahirpur local market. ask your boatman and tell him to manage cooking facilities at that island. Local people of that island is extremely friendly and that they can cook for you. you'll also do BBQ at there if you've got all necessary things for it.

Tips:

** along side the engine boat, hire alittle boat or two. Tie the boat behind the engine boat. you'll use that to watch the birds more closely. At the center of the Haor, you'll find difficulties to rent such boats.

** There are lot of shako  are going to be on your path, to cross by feet, it'll be 2 taka per person. To cross using your hired bike, it'll be 10 taka per bike. So during hiring bike, confirm about who can pay the bill.
*Take a life vest . it's must if you are doing not know swimming.
*Be conscious of malaria, use mosquito repellent (Odomos) once you will pass the night near at that island.
*Be very careful at bargaining.
* Use umbrella for sun/ rain.
* Take poly thins to save lots of your electronics devices .
*Take care kits and band aids.
*At the time of sun rise/sun set and night there's possibility to be attacked by many tiny white insects . they're not harmful but an excessive amount of annoying. Cover your face if you see them.
* take care at skin diving because inside Haor there are numerous plants and invisible net(current jal).
*Do not go there just for fishing.
*Using current jal is completely banned there.
*Best time to travel there's winter.
*Best place for wildlife photography due to thousands migratory birds.
*Do not hunt the birds.
*Do not drop any waste and poly thins in Haor.
*Keep the Haor clean.
